Monday 27.4.
Theoretical class (Vascular surgery ward, Tampere Hospital)
• Afternoon session (16h00-20h00): Patient selection, surgical strategy and alternative
approaches to the aorta
Tuesday 28.4.
Cadaver training (O-building, Tampere Surgical Education Centre)
• 8h00-9h15: full/mini-incision median sternotomy for aortic de-branching
Coffee break
• 9h30-10h45: left thoracotomy for access to descending aorta
Lunch break
• 11h30-14h00: Left lombotomy, retroperitoneal approach to the aorta and further
conversion to full thoraco-abdominal aortic exposure; midline laparotomy and
transperitoneal approach to the abdominal aorta (supracoeliac clamping in the lesser
sac/exposure of the supra-para-infrarenal aorta, exposure of the proximal
SMA/RRA/LRA and of the iliac bifurcations)
Coffee break
• 14h15-16h00: right visceral rotation and exposure of the Inferior Vena Cava
Wednesday 29.4.
Aortic simulation (Näsijärvi-cabinet, Finn-Medi 5)
• Morning session (8h00-11h30): non-aortic bleeding control; systematic approach to
aortic anastomosis
• Feedback and closure of event (11h30-12h00)
